Fireworks

In French we watched a French firework song video to learn firework vocabulary and then we made firework pictures from French words.

Number Monsters

This week in French we practised our numbers to 20 and parts of the face. The children told Madame Harvey in French what to draw to make a monster face on the board e.g. une grande tete, dix-sept yeux, deux bouches. They then worked with a partner to describe a monster for their partner to draw.

Sikhism

Jamie and Sabina’s grandparents visited school to talk to Diamond Class about what it is like to be Sikh. They learned all about the Gurus and the 5Ks. We had a wonderful time learning how to write in Punjab.

Harvest Festival

We celebrated our Harvest Festival in St Margaret’s Church Fleggburgh with Reverend Steven. We thanked God for our local harvest and talked about produce at our local farm. Year 6 explained how we used their pumpkins to make soup and Emerald Class talked about how we made potato scones with the potatoes we harvested.

Diamond Class finished our service with prayers of thanks and then everyone came back to school for Harvest Tea.

Making Soup

The Year Sixes were lucky enough to pick a pumpkin but struggled to carry it. We made a big soup with them and this is how we made it. We started with taking out the middle of the pumpkin. Then we took out the seeds and put them in a bowl. After that, we cut the pumpkin into cubes. Then we put them in a bowl then put them in a cooking pot. We had to peel the delicious onions and cut them up. Fortunately, James seemed to be immune to the onions, unfortunately for everyone else they cried. Next, we added our finally chopped onions to our cubes of pumpkin in the cooker. We poured some vegetable stock into the cooker before finally putting the lids on, turning the heat up. When it was cooked, it was delicious.

Making Scones

We worked in mixed age groups to make potato scones for the harvest festival. We carefully followed the recipe adding milk, butter, flour, baking powder and cheese. When they were baked we shared them with our families. Elsie thought they were delicious. Levi said, “They were good.”

Emotion Bottles

Year 5 and 6 have been learning about how their emotions may change during puberty. They created emotion bottles, filling them full of different materials to represent their different emotions. Some made hearts from pipe cleaners to represent love and used a spiralled pipe cleaner to show the whirlwind effect they puberty can have on emotions.

Online Safety

This half term in computing we have been learning how to keep ourselves safe online. We watched the CEOPs ‘Play, Like, Share’ animated series which provided us with knowledge, skills and confidence we need to deal with the risks we might encounter online. We all participated in many meaningful discussions, and tested our online safety knowledge by answering questions and drawing labelled diagrams. We ended our unit on online safety by playing ‘Band Runner’ a fun, interactive game in which we had to help our character make safe online choices.
