The Years 1 and 2 have been using commands in different orders to investigate how the order affects the outcome. They also learned about designing in programs, designing their own algorithms as programs and debugging them.
Emerald Class Activities
Poetry
In Sapphire Class we worked together to select, rehearse and perform our own group poems. We worked together in small groups and had to think carefully about how we would use our voices, changing the speed, tone and volume of our voices to put on a good performance! We then performed these confidently at the poetry festival and reflected on how our performances went.
Sense of Smell
In our Senses topic, we used spices and herbs to explore our sense of smell.
We took turns to smell the herbs and spices and then described what they reminded us of.
Iria said, “Cinnamon reminds me of Christmas.”
Ivy said, “Ginger makes me think about gingerbread men.”
Xach said, “This smells spicy like curry.”
Tasting Crackers
In science we have learned about our senses. We investigated taste using a selection of different crackers. We thought about what flavours we could taste and described them as ‘salty, sweet, plain, cheesy and spicy’.
“I like the cheese crackers best,” Said Ayla.
Size Ordering
Reception have been ordering items by their size. They used the words ‘bigger’ and ‘smaller’, ‘longer’ and ‘shorter’ to compare.
Capacity
Reception explored capacity. They enjoyed finding out how much water would fit in each container.
Balancing
Reception have been investigating mass. They compared items and used balance scales to see which were heaviest.
Healthy Eating
Emerald Class learned about healthy eating. We had different foods and sorted them into treats we eat sometimes and which are good for us to eat every day.
Design and Technology
We designed and made our own Christmas cards and spinner toys. The Christmas cards were pipe cleaner trees, decorated with bead baubles and we each wrote a message to our families inside. Our spinner toys were designed so that they had parts of picture on each side and when we pulled the string, it spun to combine the two part pictures, into one complete picture.
